The latest official wildfire forecast shows Santa Cruz County above normal for this June. Wildfire risks in the Western U.S. climbed a lot since March, because of droughts, record-setting heat waves, and rapid snowmelt. Overall, so much land is at risk that large firefighting agencies like the U.S. Forest Service and CAL FIRE are worried about having enough equipment and firefighters. CAL FIRE runs eight fire stations across Santa Cruz County.
