NRG Firewise Community,
Please join me at the Sheriff’s Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, November 12, from 6:00–8:00 pm at the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff will be discussing winter preparedness, emergency evacuations, and neighborhood safety. This is an important opportunity for our community to ask questions about how 300 households will safely evacuate when a wildfire threatens our neighborhood.
We know that evacuating early is ideal when there’s sufficient warning. But wildfires are unpredictable, and we need to be prepared for situations when we have only minutes to escape.
Here are some important questions we need answered:
-
Evacuation routes: How will the Sheriff safely evacuate 300 households when North Rodeo Gulch Road has three one-lane bottlenecks?
-
Alternate egress routes: Why hasn’t the Sheriff’s Department participated in any of our evacuation drills? How will deputies become familiar with these routes and determine when to use them?
-
Emergency notifications: How will residents know which routes to take when time is limited, especially if power and communications are disrupted?
-
Door-to-door notifications: Is knocking on doors a realistic evacuation strategy when homes are spread across large properties and minutes could mean the difference between life and death?
Our NRG Firewise community has worked hard to identify alternate evacuation routes, install directional signs, and conduct egress drills. Now we need to understand how the Sheriff’s Department plans to coordinate with us during an actual emergency.
Please join me at this Town Hall meeting so we can get answers and work together to protect our community.
Thanks,
Susan
