We don’t have enough MURS radio users in our NRG Firewise group. The goal is to get people from each of our 17 micro communities to know how to communicate with one another so we can help one another. That’s how we’ll reach those without radios and those who are non ambulatory. Our next MURS test is on Saturday, April 18th at 9:00 am. If you don’t have a radio, check our website (nrgfirewise.com) for links and get your radios programmed by Keith Trinity or Eric Swenson. Your radio will be your lifeline during a disaster when we don’t have internet.
On Sunday, June 7th, at 7:00 pm, we are doing a county-wide test with the EOC and all of the firewise communities in Santa Cruz County. We need YOU to relay our test messages to your neighbors so we can see how far and wide we can reach neighbors. We’ll talk to the EOC with our ham radios once we get a tally on how many of our 300+ members we reach. If you are a ham, please let me know so you can join Keith, Eric, Teresa, and me as we coordinate with ARES and other radio organizations to make sure we know how to get help in a real emergency.
During our last test we had about 5 MURS radio members but only 1 got the test message that I sent out. I hope you’ll join us so we can establish a strong communication system that will save lives.
Thanks! Susan
will be able to get messages out to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) through our hams.
